1. Would it be acceptable for our team to be comprised of students from different educational institutions?
Yes, it is acceptable. As long as your team members fulfill the criteria in the Terms and Conditions and especially under the Eligibility clause:
1.2 The Challenge is open to all students who are enrolled on a full-time basis at an Institute of Higher Learning (Tertiary Institution or its equivalent) in Brunei Darussalam. The participants must remain enrolled as full-time students until the end of February 2026.
Please let us know if you intend to combine with other local educational institutions, as this option is not available in the registration form.
2. Could you kindly confirm the key dates for the competition, such as registration deadlines, submission dates, and the final presentation?
Registration opens - 19 June 2025
Registration closes - 19 July 2025
Participants' Briefing - 30 July 2025
Project Deadline & submission - 16 August 2025
Project Presentation - 17-18 September 2025
National Prize Presentation - 19 November 2025
Any changes to the dates will be inform through our website and email.
3. Will participants be provided with any datasets, tools, or other resources for the competition?
You can email your request to info@survey.gov.bn to obtain the datasets / resources. The Secretariat will contact you to get further details. Please note this is based on (not limited to) the size of the Area of Interest (AOI), type of data and approval of the Surveyor General.
4. Lastly, are teams expected to develop a functional product or solution in addition to the poster, or is the poster the sole required deliverable?
The main deliverables / submission of the challenge are:
- 1 write up
- 1 poster
- 1 presentation
Please refer to "Important Notes for Participants" document.
Teams are not required to create or develop a full-blown product / application. Teams are required to present a concept of the ideas with evidence to show how the proposed geospatial technology / information are being used to support the nation's SDGs.
This challenge is a great platform for students to show their potential and their interest and technical knowledge in the geospatial field, while also relating it to the SDGs.
5. We are interested to register our team which is comprised of various institutions. Kindly advise us on the next steps we need to take for this arrangement, and let us know if there are any additional details or documentation required from our side. Additionally, we would like to ask if we are still required to fill in the online registration form, or if there is a separate process we should follow for mixed-institution teams.
The Registration Form has been updated. So, please select "COMBINED TEAM" in the drop-down menu under "Name of Educational Institution" in the first section.
No separate process for combined teams. For now, please upload the required documents (such as the declaration form) to the Registration Form. Any changes to this process will be informed accordingly.
